Linear Pixel Plot

The Linear Pixel Plot window displays a graph of the pixel luminance along a line segment, providing a graphical version of the information displayed in the Pixel Window. You can drag the window to a more convenient area and resize it to view the entire plot.

Brighter areas are represented by higher values (white has the highest value); darker areas are represented by lower values (black=0).

Procedure

  1. Click the Image Organizer toolbar icon .
  2. Click the Center Image icon in the Image Organizer.

The selected image should now be visible in the tracing window and the line segment should appear over the image. If you don't see this line, the selected image may not be in the tracing window.

To copy the raw histogram data to the clipboard, hold down the Shift or Ctrl key and click in the linear pixel plot window. You can paste the data into Excel or another graphing program.

To move the line segment

  1. Place the cursor over the line segment until the cursor changes to a hand.
  2. Click and drag the line segment; the orientation of the line segment and its length do not change.

To move one end of the line segment

  1. Place the cursor over an end until the cursor changes to a hand and a small white square appears.
  2. Click and drag the end point to a new location; the length and orientation of the line are changed.

Line plots in background areas

In general, the graphical representations for background areas are overall horizontal jagged lines. The jagged appearance of the line is due to the noise component of the image. The greater the noise, the less the line appears to be horizontal, and the harder it is to do image segmentation (segmentation is the process of separating the things of interest, the foreground, from the rest of the image, the background).
