Scale bar scalebar

Use this command to add a scale bar to your tracing, embed a scale bar in an image, or display an onscreen scale bar while using this program.

Adding a scale bar

  1. Go to Publish > Insert and click Scale bar.

  2. In the Scalebar Settings window that opens, enter settings for size, color, font, and labeling.

    Click OK to complete entering settings.

  3. Click in the tracing window to place the scale bar; it will be centered on the point you click.

    By default, the scale bar is now a part of your tracing/data file.

Editing a scale bar

  1. Go to Trace > Edit and click Select objects.

  2. Click the scale bar to select it. You should see a small white square in the middle, indicating that the scale bar is selected.

  3. Right-click to access editing options:

    • Embed into Image: If an image is open and selected in the Image Organizer, the selected scalebar can be embedded in that image for publication.

      If part of the scalebar is placed outside of the image, the scalebar cannot be embedded into the image.

      Once a scale bar has been embedded, it becomes part of the image and it is no longer possible to change its properties or move it around.

    • Move selected scalebar: Click then drag the scale bar to a different location

    • Delete selected scalebar: Click to delete the scale bar

    • Keep scalebar onscreen: Click to lock the scale bar to its current position. It will remain in the same location onscreen if the rest of the tracing is moved.

    • Change scalebar settings: Edit the color, font, height, length of the scalebar; show labels or units.

    • Exit selection tool: Click to exit object-selection mode.
