Crop image

Purpose

Use the Crop tool to identify and save only the portion of the image that interests you.

This can be useful for simplifying visually complex images and for removing extraneous portions of captured images.

Procedure

  1. Click the Crop button on the Image toolbar.

    A marquee or crop-box (a rectangle outlined with a dashed line) appears over the image and the Crop Image Stack window appears.

    • The marquee defines the area of the image that will be saved.

  2. Limit the Z-planes to include in the cropped image by typing Starting Plane and Ending Plane into the boxes in the Crop Image Stack window.

    For single plane images, ignore this step.

  3. Define the cropping area by moving and/or resizing the marquee.

    1. To move the marquee, place your cursor inside; the cursor changes to a four-headed arrow. Drag the marquee to the area that you want to save.

    2. To adjust the size and shape of the marquee, move your cursor to the sides or corners of the marquee; the cursor changes to a two-sided arrow. Drag the arrow to adjust the size of the cropping area.

  4. Click Crop; the Save Image As dialog opens.

    1. Navigate to the desired save location.

    2. Type a file name into the File Name box.

    3. Choose the desired file format from the Save as Type drop-down.

    4. Click Save.
