Quick Measurement

Use these tools to make instant measurements of objects in the tracing window. These tools can also be used to test lens calibrations and to fine-tune the calibrations.

Stereo Investigator doesn't save these measurements to the data file; they are only available during the current session.

Each measurement tool operates in a continuous mode in which you can take successive measurements.

 

ClosedQuick Measure Line

To take one measurement

  1. Click Tools>Quick Measure Line.
  2. Click the point of origin.
  3. Position the cursor over the end point to take a length measurement. A line is drawn.
  4. Click to view the measurement.

To take multiple-length measurements from one point of origin

Using this technique that all of the measurements are guaranteed to be taken from the same initial point.

  1. Click Tools>Quick Measure Line.
  2. Click the point of origin.
  3. Position the cursor over the end point to take a length measurement. A line is drawn.
  4. Press F8. Stereo Investigator records a measurement, but the rubber line is still anchored at the point of origin.
  5. Move the cursor to another position and press F8 again.
  6. Click Tools>Display Quick Measurements to view the values recorded for the different lengths.

 

To measure the distance across multiple fields of view, use the arrow buttons in the toolbar to move the stage.

To translate the line, press the SHIFT key and drag the line.

To constrain the line to 22½° increments, press the CTRL key. Helpful to draw perfectly horizontal and vertical lines.

ClosedQuick Measure Circle
  1. Click Tools>Quick Measure Circle.
  2. Click the center of the circle.
  3. Drag the mouse to draw the circle.
  4. Click to view the measurement.
ClosedQuick Measure Angle

Measures an angle defined by three points.

To use Quick Measure Angle

  1. Click Tools>Quick Measure Angle.
  2. Click along the first side of the angle.
  3. Move the mouse to the vertex of the angle and click again. The angle formed by the rubber band lines is continuously updated in the message bar.
  4. End by clicking a point on the second side of the angle. A dialog box displays the angle in degrees and radians.
ClosedDisplay Quick Measurements

Quick measurements for each session of Stereo Investigator are temporarily recorded for the duration of that session.

  • To view the recorded quick measurements, click Tools>Display Quick Measurements. Measurements are displayed in the order in which they were made.
  • To view details about a measurement, double-click the entry.
  • To add a comment, highlight an entry and click the Comment button.
