Image Scaling can be used to override the default scaling (i.e., the scaling associated with the current lens) to apply the correct scaling information (i.e., settings at time of acquisition). When you open an image, you might see one of these two windows: Image Scaling or Image Scaling and Placement.

Image Scaling and Placement appears when Microlucida "suspects" that the image placement should be re-calculated.
If you are loading an image from an external image source, use External Image Source Setup before loading the image.
By default, Microlucida applies the scaling settings associated with the current lens.
For some acquired images, you may need to override the default scaling to apply the correct scaling information (i.e., settings at time of acquisition).

Distance between images
Use the focal distance or the physical distance.
Focal Distance
Image stacks collected with Microlucida are collected using spacings that describe the focal plane separation.
Physical Distance
Describes the physical movement of the microscope stage as images are collected.
If you select this option, you need to select the correction factor for the physical distance between the lens and the image. Microlucida automatically enter this value for Air, Oil, and Water. If you select Other, you must manually enter the factor.
Place Image in upper left hand corner of the main window
Select if you are only interested in viewing an image and you are not concerned with aligning with data file elements.
Recalculate the placement of the image assuming the image should be centered on the optical center
Select if you are loading an image from an external image source such and need that image to align with a live image, an acquired image from the camera, or a tracing made using the camera.
If this option is already selected, this is a good indication that:

Even with the recalculation of the placement of the image, the field of view for the camera and the external source may not be exactly the same. As a result, the images from the camera and the external image source may not align perfectly.
Use additional offsets to refine the alignment -- this method is similar to performing a parcentric correction between two image sources.
