Senior Scientific Support Specialist

MBF Bioscience is seeking a Senior Scientific Support Specialist with an advanced degree and proven expertise in neuroscience, imaging, or computational biology. In this role of “Systems Support II”, you will provide high-level scientific and technical support to our global customer base of leading researchers, while also contributing to the development and optimization of support processes, training programs, and product feedback.

 

This is an in-person position. Locations: Williston, Vermont & San Diego, CA.

 

Salary range: $70,000 – $100,000 per year, based on education and experience, plus competitive benefits.

 

Responsibilities

 

    • Serve as a “scientific consultant” for MBF software and hardware, guiding customers in troubleshooting, quantitative image analysis workflows, and best practices in microscopy data acquisition.
    • Deliver specialized training programs for researchers, both remotely and on-site, tailored to advanced scientific applications.
    • Lead the diagnosis and resolution of complex hardware/software integration issues, ensuring optimal system performance in cutting-edge laboratories.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to provide structured feedback on customer needs, contributing to product development and technical documentation.
    • Author and maintain advanced training resources, including technical guides, scientific protocols, and knowledge-base content.
    • Participate in cross-functional projects, such as workflow optimization and the integration of AI/ML-based image analysis tools.
    • Travel (up to 5–7 days per month) to install, configure, and validate MBF systems in leading research institutions worldwide.

 

Job Requirements

 

    • Demonstrated expertise with advanced microscopy techniques, image analysis platforms, and quantitative research methods.
    • Strong record of problem-solving in research or technical environments, with the ability to independently design and implement solutions.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting technical information to diverse scientific audiences.

 

Desired Skills

 

    • Experience mentoring, training, or teaching in a research or technical setting.
    • Prior experience supporting or developing scientific instrumentation or image analysis software.
    • Familiarity with programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++) for scientific workflows.
    • Hands-on experience with laboratory hardware integration, including installation and calibration of microscopy imaging systems.
    • Background in customer-facing roles, with the ability to balance scientific expertise and client relationship management.

 

Education Requirements

 

    • Advanced degree in neuroscience, computational biology, computer science, or a related technical field.
 

Senior FPGA Systems Engineer

MBF Bioscience is looking for a talented FPGA systems engineer that wants to work on the cutting edge of understanding brain function.  Design the next generation of hardware and software to control state of the art brain imaging systems.

 

Responsibilities

    • Develop FPGA designs to perform data acquisition, signal processing, and signal generation
    • Develop low-level kernel driver software to interface with FPGA device
    • Develop desktop applications that utilize FPGA based data acquisition systems

Required Skills

    • Strong proficiency with Verilog
    • At least 3 years writing large complex FPGA designs in Verilog
    • Strong proficiency with Vivado environment
    • Project and non-project design flows
    • Hierarchical design flows
    • Advanced timing closure techniques
    • Integrating high-level IP modules (PCI Express, JESD204B, etc.)
    • Developing original IP modules using IP packager
    • Experience targeting designs for the Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale platform
    • Partial reconfiguration / Dynamic Function eXchange
    • Clocking resources (MMCM/PLL)
    • I/O interfaces (SelectIO, GTH transceivers)
    • Working knowledge of circuit design and board level communication interfaces
    • LVDS, SPI, I2C, JESD204B
    • Experience interfacing with high-speed ADC and DAC components
    • Experience utilizing electronic test equipment (oscilloscope, DMM, logic analyzer)
    • Strong proficiency with C++/C
    • Experience with low-level device interfaces
    • Desired Skills
    • Experience implementing kernel mode device drivers for Windows OS
    • Proficiency with MATLAB
    • Proficiency with Python
    • Experience with scientific imaging techniques / fluorescence laser-scanning microscopy

Educational Requirements

 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or in related field
