MBF Bioscience Team Gets Set for Marathon
Cheer on the MBF Bioscience team this Sunday as they race around Burlington in the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon & Relay. Five team members representing various departments, including President Jack Glaser, Support Engineer Mariya Power, Staff Scientist/Research Liaison Dan Peruzzi, Marketing Coordinator Kristen Connors, and Lab Technician Amy Schoon have been training together in anticipation of the big day.
The team members come from a variety of athletic backgrounds. Schoon played hockey in college, while Power started running over fifteen years ago when she was still living in her native Ukraine. A few years ago, she volunteered at the marathon as a member of a local running club. “It’s a great event and I promised myself that someday I would definitely participate,” she said. Power made good on that promise this year when she organized a team of her co-workers, ordered t-shirts, and distributed training schedules that included Saturday morning runs in the park. She also put her M.S. in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Vermont to use by advising her teammates on adequate food and drink intake for the training period as well as the time before and after the event.
The runners look forward to Sunday’s big event. “I am running for the camaraderie,” Peruzzi said. “Doing something like this out of the office that is relatively stress free helps us work together and trust each other. It’s also fun, and a big morale booster.”
